The Starbuck's Gift Card is a lovely thing to receive. I so enjoy the Cafe Verona, strong, with lots of light cream and 1 1/2 teaspoons of organic sugar (thank you, Michael, for turning me on to that).
I received many Starbuck's Gift Cards for Christmas this year. When I added the total amount of all of them, I discovered I had a whopping $80 worth. So I decided to visit Starbuck's to see what I could do with all that money (besides buying 40 cups of coffee).

And then I saw it. The Krups Burr Grinder. I salivated when I saw it... similar to the way I salivate at photos of certain hot men. It was not cheap, but at $60, it was within my gift card price range. Oh, it's amazing. I've had coffee grinders before, but this one has a coarseness setting, as well as a "number of cups" setting. I can now pour in the whole Verona beans, choose coarse (for my percolator), and choose the number of cups. No thinking required, no measuring, just lots of good, fresh, delicious coffee.
I've been awake for days.

Salivating over that certain hot man is quite understandable. Honey hush! A $60. coffee grinder? No salivating here. But congrats on finding something you loved and not paying a penny for it.
Mark :-)
LOVE that hot man pic. Wowzer.
The sweater looks fabulous. Wish I could see it on you! Also wish I lived somewhere cold enough to really need a sweater like that. Love your attitude about coffee. You use a percolater? Do you prefer a percolater to a drip brewing machine? There is definitely a taste difference.
Good to see you posting words again, not that I don't enjoy the 'nuff said posts!

I prefer the taste of coffee that's been brewed in a metal reservoir, rather than a plastic one. Too many plastic parts in those drip coffee makers. But a nice coarse grind in a percolator makes my kind of heaven!
that burr grinder is awesome!
just make sure your beans are always at room temp.....otherwise the mechanism get clogged with the natural oils and condensation.
happy new year...all the best for '08!
S!
Shirley,
Thanks for the advice... never thought of that. I keep whole beans in the fridge. I read once that ground coffee should be kept in an airtight container but not in the fridge, as moisture builds up and ruins the grind. However, whole bean keeps much fresher in the fridge. But I will let the beans warm to room temp now.
Who knew a good cup of joe could be so complex???
Hugs and my best to you in 2008 also!
DW - So...when are you having me over for coffee????
Love, AG
